Heritage Conservation Technology Disaster Prevention

Smart Disaster Prevention System

Due to significant fires in 2019 at the Santander and Cantabria Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Spain, the National Museum of Brazil, and Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, which caused severe cultural losses. This case involves a renowned heritage museum in Taiwan and planned an smart disaster prevention system and a visual smart monitoring management system. Through smart active safety monitoring, the management unit is notified at the very early stages of a disaster, greatly reducing the risk of loss to heritage artifacts. Additionally, if a disaster occurs, the fire department can immediately obtain the museum's layout information, grasp all facility routes inside, and quickly determine the rescue path, minimizing losses.

Client Needs

  • Intelligent detection of smoke, flames, and temperature.
  • Air quality detection inside the museum.
  • Flood detection.
  • Establishment of 3D layout information for the museum.

Key Issues

  • Preservation of heritage artifacts is challenging and requires constant monitoring of environmental conditions.
  • Existing fire equipment has a long response time, making it difficult to handle fires promptly.
  • The distribution of visitors is unpredictable, which can lead to high CO2 levels in crowded areas.
  • Drainage near the loading and unloading area outside the museum is insufficient, making it prone to flooding.
  • Integrating multiple environmental sensors is challenging, making it hard for information personnel to manage and monitor value changes simultaneously.

Solutions

  • Use the VFDS (Video Fire Detection System) utilizing AI image recognition technology to identify flames and smoke during the early stage of a fire, and provide early warnings.
  • Deploy air quality sensors to monitor environmental conditions 24/7. For example, if CO2 levels exceed the set value, the management team receives alerts via LINE or Telegram and adjusts the air conditioning.
  • Install flood sensors outside the museum. If drainage exceeds the warning level, alarm devices sound, and the management team receives alerts via LINE or Telegram.
  • Integrate all environmental sensors and on-site image records through the GKB software and hardware platform.
  • Use 360° panoramic images to build important POI (Point of Interest) facilities, flammable materials, and escape locations, presenting important facilities in the museum as visual information.
